Cotton

Type of Fabric Natural fabric
What is it? Cotton is a natural, soft, fluffy fibre that comes from the seedpod of the cotton plant. Cotton is the most popular choice of fabric in the world for apparels. There are many types of clothing fabrics that is made out of cotton: Velvet, Denim, Mesh, Jersey Fabric, Fleece, Flannel, Chino, Corduroy, Canvas.
Quality Quality: Depends The quality of cotton depends on the blend of cotton. 100% pure cotton is the best quality. The higher the composition of other synthetic materials involved in the blend of cotton, the worse the quality of the blend will be.
Environmental Impact Cotton’s most prominent environmental impacts result from the use of agrochemicals (especially pesticides), the consumption of water, and the conversion of habitat to agricultural use. Diversion of water and its pollution by cotton growing has had severe impacts on major ecosystems such as the Aral Sea in Central Asia, the Indus Delta in Pakistan and the Murray Darling River in Australia.
How to Care Most cotton fabrics can be laundered in the washing machine. They should be washed frequently, since they tend to absorb moisture and pick up dirt. Wash white items in hot water, medium colors in warm water and dark colors in cold water. Cotton will shrink more in hot water than cold, and fabric that’s loosely woven shrinks more than tighter weaves. Items with embossed designs and inner construction, such as a lining and shoulder pads, should be drycleaned. Loose knits, lingerie and fabrics with special finishes might also benefit from dry-cleaning.
